With the purchase of their new headquarters building, the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation saw an opportunity to consolidate the vast amount of materials, equipment and supplies onto their new property. Until this time, off-site storage facilities were utilized; resulting in an inefficient use of time and logistical issues for the many deliveries throughout the year and especially the times near race days. The Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series organizes races on three separate occasions each year. The races require a surprising amount of logistics throughout the year, both internally within the office environment and physically with equipment, materials and supplies. By having the storage facility adjacent to the headquarters building, it simplifies the daily interaction required with the stored items. An extensive design study was performed to identify appropriate building siting, configuration, sizing and materials selections that resulted in a fiscally-responsible solution. Ultimately, the appropriate solution was determined to be a traditional stand-alone metal building with twenty-four-foot clear ceiling height, a loading dock, at-grade vehicle access and improved on-site parking facilities. The mission of the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation is to provide a world-class marathon and other events that promote health and fitness, stimulate the local economy, galvanize the community and benefit charitable organizations. We believe that the new storage facility is a key contributor to the mission by simplifying and reducing the time and effort spent on logistics for the organization.
